Barry began his career in trucking as an Owner Operator in 1984. He then became Safety Director in 1988 for Henderson Express, which was started by his dad, the late Doug McGarrh. Barry then succeeded his Dad as President in 2004. In 2006 Barry and his brother, Cary, went on after their dad's full retirement to transition the family business into what is now Bluegrass Transport & Expeditors. His gained experience and knowledge in the trucking industry has been invaluable in the leadership of Bluegrass Transport. Barry's goal for Bluegrass Transport is to provide the best possible service to all its customers with the help of an amazing team of drivers. He leads Bluegrass Transport with the philosophy of treating others as you would have them to treat you. He does this with a family environment and an open-door policy to all the drivers and staff.
Joe McGarrh is our Lead Dispatcher and Vice President. He is an Air Force veteran and served in the 35th Logistics Readiness Squadron in Misawa, Japan from 2004-2008. After leaving the Air Force, he joined Pittsburg Tank & Tower as a project manager for 5 years. In 2014, he left PT&T to join JB Hunt and worked as an Account Manager in JB Hunt's Dedicated Contract Services division. Joe joined the family business in the spring of 2016. In 2019, he assumed partnership to be the first family member to start the 3rd generation to carry on the legacy of his Grandfather, the late Doug McGarrh. Joe enjoys playing golf every chance he gets and spending time with his wife, dog and two cats.
David McGarrh joined the family business in 2019 as another 3rd generation partner to carry on the legacy of his Grandfather, the late Doug McGarrh. David came to our team with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and has three years of experience working in the Kentucky courts system. David is now working with various Bluegrass departments to ensure that things are operating smoothly and working to better enhance our operations. David and his wife, Laine, have a precious daughter, Shiloh, along with two dogs and two cats.
Joanna joined the Henderson Express team in 2004 as Accounting Manager. Her previous career in business for 20+ years was that of being an Administrative Assistant to executives in the business and healthcare industries. Her ability to focus on detail helped with the formation of Bluegrass Transport and Expeditors, alongside husband, Barry and brother-in-law Cary. She has been invaluable in controlling the financial direction of both companies. She has been truly dedicated to the company and will continue to operate in the utmost integrity and honesty.
David Leighty is the newest addition to the Bluegrass team. He has 22 years of experience in shipping and receiving, and has already shown himself to be a great asset to our team with his hard-working, fast-learning, positive attitude! During his time off, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and their two dogs, as well as being a huge Star Wars and sports fan.
David joined the Bluegrass team in 2013 as an OTR Driver and served as our Safety Director from 2016 to 2024. Along with his years of serving as our Safety Director, he also served as our CDL Instructor for our Training Program. In 2024, with our growing need to train drivers that graduate from our local CDL schools, David is now our Director of Training. David joined the U.S. Navy after High School in 1989 as an Aviation Mechanic . He was deployed to the Red Sea in 1990 during Desert Storm. He returned to civilian life in 1993. He went on to obtain his associate degree from Vincennes University in 1996. In 2012 David became a CDL Instructor for Vincennes University. David has a passion for flying and does hold a Pilot's License. David is definitely an asset to our Company and we are very fortunate to have him on board.
Eric joined the Bluegrass Transport team in January 2024 as our Safety Director. Eric started his career in trucking as a dock worker and then route driver for the former American Freightways in 1995. Since that time, he has held many roles in the transportation industry including dispatcher, freight broker, human resources and safety director. Eric has a passion for people and no matter the role, loves to help them reach their goals. He is married to his best friend Sonya and together they have four children and two grandchildren. Eric is also an ordained minister with a degree in theology and biblical studies. As well as his full-time position as Safety Director here at Bluegrass Transport, he serves his church and community through teaching, counseling and discipleship ministry.
